On Sunday, 25th March 1916, in the Workers’ Concert Hall, Liberty Hall. The Irish Workers’ Dramatic Company presented a new play dealing with the ’67 movement in three acts…followed by a high-class concert.

Reviewing the production in the ITGWU’s new weekly the Workers’ Republic on 8th April, Francis Sheehy Skeffington thought that “nothing could be healthier for the youth of Ireland than the lesson of Connolly’s patriotic play teaches”

Last Saturday night (7th, September) the Shared History interpretative Project (SHIP) in conjunction with SIPTU, Irish Equity, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the James Connolly Visitors Centre staged a performance of James Connolly’s Under Which Flag?

Performing to a packed hall in the Duncairn Arts Centre, the cast of acclaimed Irish Equity actors were led by Sabina Coyne-Higgins and included Brendan Conroy, Donna Anita Nikolaisen, Frank O’Sullivan, John Cronin and Steve Gunn. Direction and production was by Equity President, Padraig Murray and Bryan Murray narrated.

The performance was introduced by SIPTU Deputy General Secretary, Ethel Buckley, and closed by Labour Historian and Musician Union of Ireland Executive member Francis Devine

SIPTU would like to thank the SHIP for all its diligent work in staging the production and to acknowledge the valued presence of the Mayor of Belfast, John Finucane.
